Best Joe Burrow Rookie Cards
Table of Contents

Joey B is still one of the hottest… or should I say iciest, players in the league. His ability to clutch up games and pull out wins against outlandish odds has transferred seamlessly from his dominant LSU run.

While he still hasn’t shaken everyone calling him Joe Burrows, the overall 1st pick of the 2020 NFL Draft is getting better and better each year, though staying healthy is his biggest concern.

In only his second year, Burrow took a team which hasn’t won a playoff match since the 90s, to the Super Bowl. Last year he took them to the championship game. Could this be the year Joe Burrow and the Bengals win the Super Bowl?

Reasons To Buy

  • Joe Burrow has proven himself able to get to a Super Bowl.
  • Joe was selected for his first Pro Bowl last year.
  • Joe is consistently breaking records, which form great demand spikes.

Concerns

  • Joe’s rookie season ended with a season-ending injury. Will he be able to stay healthy this season?
  • With back to back deep playoff runs, teams will be strategizing to combat the Bengal’s offense.

Joe Burrow Stats For 2022

In the 2022 Regular Season, Joe Burrow passed for 279.7 yards per game with a 68.3% completion percentage.

Out of 61 Quarterbacks, ESPN ranked Joe Burrow 6th by QBR and 6th by Passer Rating.

According to Pro-Football-Reference, Joe Burrow’s 2022 Fantasy Rank as a QB was 4 out of 84.

Joe Burrow Social Metrics

While social metrics have little to do with a player’s on-field performance, they are an indicator as to the popularity of a player within the wider world. As you would expect, cards for popular players often have increased demand versus less marketed players.

The Best Joe Burrow Cards

The term “best” is subjective. What’s best for me may not be best for you. Instead, I prefer to use data and trends to map out the landscape. Rather than just tell you the cards I think are best for me, this allows you to see what I see and determine the best plays for you.

How Many Joe Burrow Cards Are There?

According to Trading Card Database, Joe Burrow has 9,547 cards, of which 4,444 are rookie cards from 2020.

When is the best time to buy Joe Burrow Cards?

As with any player, you want to buy cards when supply is plentiful and potential demand is foreseeable.

Let’s break that down further.

For supply to be plentiful, the player needs to be flying under the radar. You’re looking for times when people are not thinking about them; for example: it’s out of season for the sport, or because the player is underperforming against expectations, or they’re injured, or they’re currently on the bench, or any other reason that would detract from the player being hyped up.

The second part of the equation is buying a player whose future demand has the potential to increase significantly, which would form your planned sell window. Good examples of potential demand spikes are players performing above expectations, winning notable awards, making deep playoff runs, moving from the bench to a starting position, being drafted or called up, being traded, or any other reason that would make people look at and get excited for a player.

Joe Burrow is one of those players who has been hyped up since college, and with his multiple playoff runs, his cards haven’t taken many huge dips. The only real spot came early, after his rookie season injury.

When to buy in depends on how you think he’s going to perform going into the start of the season. On a macro level, we know that the best time to buy football cards is typically in the off-season or during the mid-season lull towards the end of the year.

If you feel Joe is going to come out of the gate swinging, then picking up an array of his cards before the season kicks off would be the play, though if you think he may have a few bad games, then waiting a while may reap higher rewards.

Overall, Joe Burrow is in an extremely hyped phase. The question you need to ask yourself is: what would it take for Joe Burrow’s rookie card market to move upwards? Prices already factor in that he’s a Pro Bowler, Super Bowl competitor and a conference champion. To me, the expectations are on him winning a Super Bowl, which is an extremely tall order. I would probably wait until things simmer down.

Joe Burrow Card Market Overview

To gauge the overall performance of a player’s card market, I use two indicators as an index. The first is the strength of the player’s Silver Prizm. As this is a staple card for every player, it gives a reliable indication of the health of the player’s market.

The second factor I look at is the highest sale price of the player’s True Rookie Patch Auto, as again, almost every player has one of these, which allows it to act as a top-end marker for the market.

Joe Burrow Silver Prizm Overview

Prizm is undoubtedly one of the most popular sets for sports card investors and the Silver parallel is often one of the most transacted versions of the cards. This level of demand and transaction volume provides a firm foundation for assessing the player’s market, which typically guides the player’s other cards from a macro perspective.

Joe Burrow National Treasures True RPA Value

The National Treasures True RPA is a stunning NFL card for any player. A numbered rookie out of 99, the true rookie patch auto card comes in a vertical orientation, sports a team jersey color-match scheme and is adorned with a foiled RC stamp. The card includes an on-card autograph and large jersey patch, where more colors typically equate to a higher value.

Most Liquid Joe Burrow Rookie Cards – Raw

The number of cards printed nowadays is overwhelming and most of them are binder fillers. Make sure you understand this because it is paramount. For investors specifically, a card’s liquidity is extremely important to allow moving in and out of investments at will.

The last thing you want to do is make a perfect prediction on a player’s future, invest in a vast number of their cards, only to find out when you go to sell them, that the cards you purchased are not the ones people chase and collect.

We’ve all done it before, but hopefully, this section will help you avoid this pitfall.

Highest Value Joe Burrow Rookie Cards – Raw

At the highest end, Joe Burrow has some incredible cards, which have sold for enormous amounts. Pulling one of these is akin to a lottery ticket. However, as these cards are unobtainable for most investors, I will not focus on those in this section. Instead, this section will focus on cards that have at least 50 sales over the past 12 months. This makes them high end, yet still liquid.

Most Expensive Joe Burrow Football Cards – Raw

Below are the four most expensive cards sold in the last 12 months, according to Market Movers.

The Top Joe Burrow Rookie Card For Me – Raw

Joe Burrow has some truly phenomenal top end cards. However, what is really interesting to me is that the National Treasures Joe Burrow True RPA /99 sold for more than the Shield one of one and the Platinum parallel of the same card.

I was a little surprised by the list of most sold cards, which are typically a mix of prizms, rated rookies and other base cards, yet Joe’s include several inserts over these staples. My suspicion is that this is because of the popularity of Joe as he enters veteran status in the league, meaning most of his earliest raw cards have likely already been graded.

If I was going to invest in the raw Joe Burrow RC market, the newer cards would be a play I would look at because, as mentioned already, at this point most of the 2020 cards will have likely been submitted to PSA already. However, my preference would be to skip some of these newer inserts and move further upmarket, looking towards some of the autograph cards.

Best Joe Burrow Rookie Cards – Graded PSA 10

Raw cards have the upside of being gradable, which is a play a lot of investors are interested in making. Finding raw gems and grading them can add a tremendous level of profit to a play. However, with that upside comes additional risk, as cards that grade below a 10 rarely command a profit.

For many investors, grading cards is a risk they are not willing to take. For them, their preference is to purchase slabs and make plays based on the value of the card without having to account for the grading variable.

Personally, I like to make grading plays for newer cards, though for older rookies, I generally stick to graded slabs as finding a perfect raw copy gets exceedingly more difficult as time goes by.

PSA, Beckett, SGC and CGC are the most reputable grading companies and are the only ones trusted by most investors. Smaller grading companies with different specialities are appearing, though they have yet to make a significant impact. For now, the PSA 10 is by far the most desired grade for a card, except for the incredibly rare BGS Black Label.

The debate over the best grading company is highly contentious, but while PSA commands the largest premium, investors will be most interested in PSA 10 slabs.

Most Expensive Joe Burrow Football Cards – PSA 10

Below are the four most expensive PSA 10 cards sold in the last 12 months, according to Market Movers.

My Thoughts On The Top Joe Burrow Rookie Cards – PSA 10

Joe’s PSA 10 market looks much closer to my expectations, with the most liquid cards being the Prizm, Rated Rookie and Mosaic base cards. The discrepancy between the raw cards and these slabs makes more sense when you contextualize that Joe’s football card market is maturing and he has been hyped up since his inception as a rookie quarterback. It makes sense that most of the pristine raw cards would have already been graded and thus, the raw market is considering new inserts for potential grading plays.

Even more interesting is the lack of a showing from some of the more notable inserts, like the Downtown or Color Blast.

If I was going to invest, I would have my eye out for one of the autos. While the rookie patch autograph cards are superb, from a liquidity perspective, I would look more towards the non-patches. For me, the Contenders wins due to it being an on-card auto vs a sticker.

Best Joe Burrow Non-Rookie Cards

For many NFL sports card investors, all that matters are the RCs and this is typically what I stick to as well. NFL rookie cards are often the most popular cards for a player and act as a baseline for collectors and investors in the ever-expanding world of cards. However, for some investors, the price of a Joe Burrow RC may not be workable.

Personally, if I’m going to invest in a non-rookie card for a player, I look for either, the first card where they are in a new team’s jersey after a transfer, or I lean towards popular inserts like the Kaboom!, Color Blast, Stained Glass or some of the newer released inserts. Other options include the rarer SSPs like Genesis or Sparkles.

The following is a list of the top four non-rookie cards in terms of monetary sales volume within the last 12-months according to Market Movers.

Honorable Mentions

The data shows that the above listed cards are the best in the eyes of investors. However, for Joe Burrow collectors, there are a few other dazzling cards worth looking at.

TI’m shocked that we have not already included the 2020 Panini Optic Downtown card in this analysis. This chromium card features Joe mid-pass in front of the mascot bengal tiger and I honestly thought this would be one of the most popular Joe Burrow rookie cards around.

The Absolute Kaboom! is always a popular and valuable card. Joe’s one is a magnificent piece, with his game jersey naturally color matching the Kaboom theme.

The 2022 Panini Prizm Black is not the most expensive Joe Burrow rookie card, but it is a pleasant alternative to the standard prizm parallels. These Chronicles inserts are getting more popular. This card features burrow in a mid-pass shot and the Bengal’s jersey naturally contrasts the black background nicely.

The Micro Mosaic is a new insert, which has received mixed reports across the market. It may not be for everyone or top of the football card lists, but its uniqueness and newness has earned itself a spot on this list.

Finally, for those of you looking for a Joe Burrow collegiate card, this Draft Picks Rated Rookie is one of the best around and is highly liquid within the LSU card market.
